Fantasy is a tough writing genre to break into due to the fact that most fantasy writers are a dime a dozen. So it is safe to say that ever 120 fantasy writers is worth at least one Neil Gaiman. Neil Gaiman has had an illustrious career as both a writer of comic books, as well as novels. He has always been a writer of fantasy, but has attained an almost rock star Turn Washington's Spies dvd box set like following due to the fact that he writes fantasy with emotional realism, wit, and horror, often all at the same time. His novel American Gods is a good candidate for consideration to be a modern day classic.

American CSI Lasvegas Seasons 1-15 dvd Gods tells the story of a released inmate named Shadow who finds out his wife has died in a car accident while having an affair with his best friend. On the plane to the funeral, Shadow encounters It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia buy Revenge Seasons 1-4 1-7 on dvd a shady character named Mr. Wednesday. Wednesday appears to know everything about Shadow, and offers him a job as a bodyguard of sorts. It is not long after the funeral that Shadow discovers that Wednesday is actually an incarnation of the Norse god Odin, and that a war is brewing between the old gods of all cultures around the world, and the new gods of today, such as technology, celebrity, and drugs.

What makes the novel so great is its nearly realistic treatment of its characters. While Wednesday is actually Norse god Odin, he talks more like a shady businessman. He does not speak in a Shakespearian tone. In fact, the other gods are reminiscent of the immigrants that brought them to America, hence the title. A recurring theme in the book is of what America means to modern day people, and perhaps the fact that it was presented by a British author offers a fresh perspective on this question.

Gaiman also shows off his ability to bring realism to Www.dvdansale.com/jazz-a-film-by-ken-burns-dvd-p-1227.html fantasy, be it with how his characters act and talk, or just simply the emotional realism he pumps into his story. The character of Shadow is altogether one readers can relate to, and then, oddly enough one the readers can aspire to as his horizons broaden. As Shadow grows before the reader, the readers can not only relate to his growth, but perhaps the readers will even grow themselves. It can almost be called a story of a second Spartacus dvd release coming of age, which is why American Gods comes heavily reccomended.

Neil Gaiman's ability to layer this story is similar to his colleague Alan Moore's graphic novel Watchmen. It begs the question of how it would have been had Gaiman conceived the book as a graphic novel. American Gods is great not only as a piece of social commentary, but as a truly riveting piece of fantasy that does what all of the best fantasy stories do: It feels real.
