Power Outages & EMP

Nowadays, even NASA admits?that EMP is one of those?events we could not recover?from: it would stop all infrastructures that sustain modern society?which?rely so much on electronics. In order to survive such a disaster, you must have the will to survive it. Determination, confidence, creativity, and a positive, can-do attitude may sound cheesy, but essential. But as a reader of this blog, you already know all that stuff. Two way radios, solar chargers, smart phone (with all survival information loaded), batteries, Radio, Torches/Lanterns - all essential survival equipment.

There's a lot more to an EMP disaster than most people know, so check out part 1 http://Apps-creator.com/?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&task=user&Id=912864 below and learn a little about these nasty disaster-causing events. That would cause the most bang-for-the-buck, crippling electronics for the most people, and most would fall within those areas of effect.

The power grid would be one of the most affected systems, due to the E3 effect and the really long wires involved, and it also contains many computerised components, and much of the wiring (most or all of the really high voltage, long distance wiring) is overhead not underground.

Where possible replace unshielded wires with shielded ones. There are three things that we know cause EMPs: a bolt of lightning, a nuclear explosion (or EMP type weapon), and solar storms. The Heritage Foundation explains an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack represents one of the greatest threats imaginable?to the United States and the world.

Forget the color-coded bunker, the carefully organized bug-out bags, and the piles of cash she keeps strategically stashed around the house. These prepare you in emergency situations apart from an EMP attack. A really good thing to have at this point would be some dynamo powered devices (e.g. hand crank powered, where you wind a handle to charge it).

In an instant, civilization as we know it would change as we get swept backward in time by a century or two. The most effective way to achieve this is to tape the lid onto the rim with electrically conductive tape (which is usually made from copper with a conductive sticky layer).

Distant Eden : This is the best book in terms of practical survival information with just enough of a story to keep you reading. I've read that the E2 component can damage some electronics that have already been damaged by the E1 field less than a second ago.
